Geneviève Wallen

Geneviève Wallen is an award-winning independent curator, writer, researcher, and workshop facilitator. Wallen’s practice is rooted in the territories of Tiohtiá:ke/Mooniyang (Montréal) and Tkaronto (Toronto). Her curatorial and administrative work is informed by intersectional feminism, intergenerational dialogues, and BIPOC platforms offering alternatives to neo-liberal definitions of care. Her ongoing curatorial explorations include the practice of gift-giving, carving space for unfinished thoughts, and musings on the intersection of longevity and pleasure.
Wallen is the creator and animator of the curatorial podcast The Conversations that Carry Us/ Ces conversations qui nous soutiennent, an Exhibition Coordinator at the FOFA Gallery; she is a member of YTB (Younger than Beyoncé) Gallery collective; the co-initiator (with Marsya Maharani) of the thematic dinner series Souped Up; a member of the Black Curators Forum; an advisory board member of the Centre for the Study of Black Canadian Diaspora, and a part Vie des arts’ editorial committee.
In 2022, Wallen was awarded the Joan Yvonne Lowndes Award from the Canada Arts Council and the GOG Awards for Art Writing.
Geneviève Wallen est une conservatrice indépendante, une écrivaine, une chercheuse et une animatrice d'ateliers, et récipiendaire du prix Joan Yvonne Lowndes du Conseil des arts du Canada et le GOG Awards for Art Writing (2022). La pratique de Wallen est enracinée dans les territoires de Tiohtiá:ke/Mooniyang (Montréal) et de Tkaronto (Toronto). Sa pratique commissariale et administrative s'inspire du féminisme intersectionnel, des dialogues intergénérationnels et des plateformes PANDC offrant des alternatives aux définitions néolibérales du soin et de la bienveillance. Ses explorations curatoriales courantes comprennent la pratique du don, la création d'espaces pour les pensées inachevées et les réflexions sur l'intersection de la longévité et du plaisir.
